What’s Required to Become a Board Certified Orthodontist?

- Stage 1 - Complete an undergraduate program, graduate from an accredited dental school and successfully pass the licensing exam. This stage can take 5 to 8 years.
- Stage 2 - Complete an accredited orthodontic program and successfully complete an orthodontic residency program. This stage can take over 3 years to complete.
- Stage 3 - After many years of successful orthodontic practice, complete the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) written and clinical exams with peer review.
